Defining the modern United Kingdom: practical information

Where and When?

The conference, which will take place at Ditchley Park in Oxfordshire, will start at 4pm on Thursday, 12 March and end at lunchtime on Saturday, 14 March.

Further details – about the programme and timings, venue, travel arrangements and what to expect – are available here, and information about the Foundation itself may be found here.

Who attends?

This Ditchley conference will bring together around 35-40 Britons and critical friends from other countries to examine these issues from a variety of political perspectives and backgrounds, across politics, government, business, finance, technology and the media. We will also aim for a rich mix of regional views from within the UK. Consensus is clearly unlikely but the aim will be a significant contribution to the national debate which will continue to play out over the coming years.

Attendance is by invitation only. The discussions will be informal and off-the-record, with emphasis placed on frank debate subject to the Ditchley Rule whereby no participant may attributably quote anything that is said at the conference. The substance of the discussions may however be freely shared after the event. There is no obligation to present anything in writing or to make any other special preparation.

Cost?

There are no conference fees. Two nights’ accommodation and meals will be provided at Ditchley Park, along with roundtrip airport or station transfers. Participants are responsible for their own travel costs, but modest travel bursaries may be available, upon application, for participants with no access to travel funding.

Further information, including a detailed programme, list of participants and logistical information will be sent ahead of the conference.
