The Ditchley Foundation launched its conference programme for 2025 by setting out to explore how to deliver on the Labour government’s ambition to address the long-term low growth of the British economy in a context of geopolitical competition. The conference, titled Great British Growth, asked what the UK can do to grow its economy in a period that will witness an intensification of competition between the US and China and a likely divergence between the US and the European Union over trade. How can the UK overcome systemic challenges and convert strengths into ‘growth’ for national renewal in the face of geopolitical upheaval?
